Exclamation wierd engine noise

whats up guys, so I put a new timing chain, guides, and tensioner, as well as an oil pump on my 1990 240 with 178k on it. It drove fine for a day and then on my way to work it started making a weird noise at idle....the best way to describe it is it sounds like a baseball card going through bike spokes that ch,ch,ch,ch noise. I took my valve cover off thinking mabye it was the tensioner but the chain seems tight, and the tensioner is tight. The car runs fine other than the noise. Someone from work suggested lifters....I don't know it's not really a ticking noise. Any ideas? I hate this car just sitting in my driveway!

You put the guides back on....that's why.....take them off and check your tensioner....it should go away if it's nothing too bad.

i just changed my timing chain for the second time today and it makes the same noise. it did it originally too. i found that if you shift at 4k rpm and drive for about 1-2 hours it goes away. i think it's just breaking the guides in or something.

Don't put the guides on guys. They're not needed. Nissan issued a TSB to remove them. It's ok to not have them on there all they do is cause problems.

so how does the tensioner work if there is no guide? i know nissan did a recal or something like that a while back but i thought that was to upgrade the guides.
