Over heating issue

My 91 240sx is having overheating issues but I cant seem to figure out what it is. I changed the thermostat and flushed out the radiator and changed the oil but the gauge says its still overheating. Someone please help me with other suggestions to check because I cant figure this out -_-

temp gauges are known to act up in these cars. some my question is, is the engine overheating, or is the gauge just telling you it's overheating?

if you can get an idea of what temp its supposed to be at, you can use an infrared pyrometer on one of the rad hoses to tell you what temperature the coolant actually is. this will help let you know if its the gauge or the motor
