Help!!! SR20DET idles high and runs like crap!

I checked the timing today, and was off about 5 degrees.... Or atleast I think it was 5, it was on the 3rd notch from the left. Anyway the car settled down a little bit, but still isn't great. One quick question though, could this all be due to the fact that I do not have my downpipe or catback on???
