If you've tried to find wider wheels in offsets below 40, you will know the advantages to having a 5 lug setup. There are more wheels available in 5 lug than in 4.

Unless you change the rear carrier, you won't need to make any shock changes (well, you would need to slightly enlarge the holes on the front struts).

If you go with the aluminum carriers on an S13, you will need to use rear shocks from an application that has the proper mounts. I haven't dug too deep on this, but I think you could use shocks from a Z32, or an S14 - they both have the proper lower mount, but I don't know about the length.

My friend did the swap on his S13 and then ran the wheels from a Z32 turbo.

Personally, I don't think it's worth it for me right now. My car is going to remain a street car, so I won't really want too much tire on there. 7" rims are suitable for my plans with the car.

You can also swap in the lighter aluminum rear pices from a 300ZX. They will need some fabrication to work with an S13, but may be really close to fitting easily into an S14. Another part for your list.

Damn by the time I start working on this car with all of these parts I will never get to drive it.

So you are saying the 300zx rear suspension parts fit the s13 with light modding?

I'm saying that upon initial survey, it looks like the Z32 aluminum upright could be made to work on an S13.

You will at least need a different shock (S14 or Z32 may work) and I guess the lower ball joint is different - so you'll need the lower arm from a Z32 as well. I'm saying thy're close.

Keep in mind, the Z32 aluminum uprights I've seen were leftover from my friend who did the S13 5 lug swap. He evidently didn;t feel like transfering the uprights.

Come to think of it why would we want the rear uprights from a Z?

The best option would be a set of Cuscos..... You get the weight reduction and camber correction/settings.

Weight savings.

The Cusco part you're talking about is the upper lateral link, not the upright. With the Cusco upper links, you would still use the stock (cast iron) uprights in the rear.

You could use the Z32 aluminum pieces to give you a good loss of unsprung weight over the stock pieces.

Like I said, my buddy went through the work to convert all 4 corners of his S13 to 5 lug, but didn't go through the effort to install the Z32 rear uprights. Make your own conclusions from that.

If anyone is interested I found a adapter that will allow you to mount 5 lug wheels on a 4 lug hub.
