Limited Slip Differentials???

I have a general idea of what a LSD is but I would like some more input into what it is exactly and how it would benefit my car. What is the difference between LSD and viscious LSD? I saw some Kaaz and a stock S-15 LSD on ebay...good idea to purchase or not?
