Tire and rim question...

I'm lookin to buy new tires and rims in about 2 weeks or so. I found some really nice rims and was wondering as to whether or not to get 17's or 18's. I was kinda thinking that because of not having a body kit or anything, my car might not look good with 18's, and also I'm worried about the clearances. Rim size is 245/40/17-18's, Thanks for the help

Thats tire size not rim

Id rather go for 17s since they are cheaper and dont lose to much of the handling.

I'm using 17x8 front and 17x9 rear, with 215-45-17F and 235-40-17 R. I like them, lots of brands to choose from, decent prices, and some sidewall for our nasty roads. 18's start to get very expensive and the wheels are heavy and hard to find in wider widths.
