I have an sr20det, that i swapped into my 240 about 5 months ago and now when i accalerate i am getting a noice that sounds like a rattle/bad exhaust leak/ wine that is coming from my turbo area. It sounds pretty terrible, anyone had similiar problems?

 

Check your turbo for shaft play.

 

yea i was gonna say shaft play but proj. cheap13 beat me to it that wine noise is most likely to be shaft play if you have a stock exhaust muffler thats were rattling might be coming from. but the wine, check that out, switch the turbo out for 400 or 500 dollars

 

also check for an exhaust leak. The nuts that fasten the turbo to the manifold are notorious for comming loose. If it is leaking, you should be able to feel air comming out if the junction.

 

If the whine is louder than your turbo usually was when it spooled, the turbo may have gotten sloppy bearings and now the compressor/turbine wheels are contacting the housings. This sucks because there is a chance of it coming apart and sending the pieces into your oil, and often the cause is a coked up oil feed or return line that oil starves the bearings. Whatever you do I'd park the car until you know whats wrong so your problem doesn't cost you an engine as well. Seen this on a Supra Mk3 and Eclipse turbo when it was too late-not pretty, and not cheap.
