for those that have installed subs in the trunk

im trying to figure out all my possibilities for how to go about this with the trunk layout. i have a 95 240sx and there is a big hole in the middle where the spare goes. so if anyone has installed a sub with the same trunk layout, can you throw me some knowledge of what you did.

i got some ideas, but just wanna see what has worked for people.

thanks

I have a giant leet pwnage JL Audio 13W7 huge stealth black sexy looking sub, with like a 2" wide surround that covers up all the mounting with its unique mounting layout. I am trying to find out if i can make a custom fiberglass enclosure with the mail volume of the enclosure being in the spare tire compartment. Ill list the specs, if i cut out the middle thingy will it be deep enough to sit almost never level with the rest of the trunk? i dont have my 240 yet so i cant see for my self, but i think mounting depth is around 10" ill copy/paste the specs.

Dimensions:
Frame Diameter: 14 in. (356 mm)
Mounting Hole Diameter: 11.9 in. (302 mm)
Mounting Depth: 10.5 in. (267 mm)
Overall Depth: 12 in. (305 mm)
Magnet Diameter: 8.38 in. (213 mm)
Pole Vent Clearance: 0.75 in. (19 mm)
Displacement: 0.21 cu. ft. (4.5 ltrs)

Enclosure Recommendations:
Sealed Range: 1.5 - 2.25 cu. ft. (42.48 - 63.72 ltrs)
Recommended Sealed Volume: 1.875 cu. ft. (53.1 ltrs)
Fc: 40.8 Hz
F3: 36.3 Hz
Qtc: 0.806
Ported Range: 2.0 - 2.75 cu. ft. (56.6 - 77.9 ltrs.)
Recommended Ported Volume: 2.375 cu. ft. (67.3 ltrs)
Recommended Tuning: 30 Hz

I would of course make it a sealed enclosure, but this would look SOO BADASS having this sexy JL 13w7 sitting in the middle of the trunk with its HUGE surround and a nice big JL 1000.1 sitting behind it, or floating on an amp rack, please give me some feedback on the depth of the spare tire well, i could cut out the center mounting point and free up some more room. thanks.

that jl 13w7 is a serious sub... building a fiberglass enclosure for it would be a big task... fiberglass will flex if it is not thick enough and with the pressure from a 13w7 with a jl 1000/1 amp pushing it there would be a lot of reinforcement needed to keep that box together... the ho wedge box that the sub is in is one hell of a box... huge as hell... even in the spare tire well there would have to be a lot of reinforcement on the metal and box to keep it from flexing... it can be done if you really want... you can find me on aim most of the time or pm me here and i will help you with the construction as well as send you a few pics of some other systems i have done with fiberglass...aim screen name wikd24d
