learning to drift on the street makes as much sense as learning to drift in a mud pit.

 

mudpits huh? drifting originated on the streets, if u actually drift you cannot deny the roots..

im not saying its right, but its the facts

i agree you learn more on the track in a shorter period of time than you do on the streets, but experienced street drifters are more skilled

i learned to drift on the streets not because i rather to, but because the closest drift events are 4+ hours away every so often

I know that it's not the smartest thing to do, 'specially with a daily driven car... Since the nearest drift events are 6 hours away, it's what we do. (obviously not for much longer considering...)

Actually drifting originated on the track, Keiichi Tsuchia was the first man to drift on the track. Many of his peers thought of it as childish and waste of tires. Soon after, a following of sorts began at some of the small track meets (source: Drift Bible). The following then soon began to trickle onto the touge drivers who saw what Tsuchia sama was doing and started the drifting era.

Thanks to Tsuchia sama's "rebellious" driving style, drifting took Japan my surprise, now the whole world wants to drift!

But yeah, drifting started actually on the track by a young driver (at the time) who did not want to break at every corner like the rest.

 

not to get further off topic but it would appear that some comprehension courses are over due. these two statements were hinting at something contrary to what some have taken them to mean.

I think we all can agree that road racing/autox is different than drifting. Some things apply to both but most things do not. Therefore you cant apply the same theories to both equally. I'll rock a welded in my 240 all day but it's strictly for drifting, if I was going to road race I wouldnt even pick a 240 as my platform let alone get a welded. I love road racing and I love drifting but they are two different beasts.


Also... seat time is seat time no matter how good you are at whatever you are doing so good job on that. You are probably much better by now lol.

 

keiichi used to be called kamikaze..

i heard in an interview that he would "drift" the corners to give the fans something to watch..

but, it is practiced on the streets or touge just as much if not more then on the tracks...who cares??

the love of the sport and the car should be whats important..not where it started
