This is straight from www.heavythrottle.com (they deal with many SR20DET engines and trannies...cuz they only import and sell SR20s...they probably know what they are talking about)...

"The S15 6 speed transmission is not especially weak or prone to failure, and should hold up to 350 RWHP"

I dunno about you, but later on i would want more than 350 RWHP. Condom, i bet you are pulling close to 300 WHP right now if not you will get there with a bigger turbo. 350 is pretty low to modded SR20DETs.

350 pretty low? Thats good enough for me to spank a few Preludes and Mustangs (I really want to beat those cars). I think your comparing him alittle too much to the 240SX's in the magazines.....but thats just my opinion.

So how much RWHP are you aiming for JinNjuicE ?

BTW, I'm not trying to sound like an ***....I'm just being curious.

I know the folks at HT.com very well....they did my harness conversion for me....but that statement is an opinion...lets not forget tat HKS has a 500rwhp S15 with the 6-speed tranny, and INGS has a 400+hp S15 with 6-speed, and CWest has a 450+hp S15 with 6-speed....I can go on and on...(I also think Signals S15 has the 6-speed in it, not sure though)...it has been proven that the tranny CAN and WILL hold up to monster HP #'s and monster clutches and slicks....my HP goal is about 425-450hp by the time im done with my car...anything more would be too scary for me ...and I dont plan on swapping the tranny out for anything

This Signal S-15 has 600hp, but the tranny is a 6-speed sequential tranny from Trust. But hey...the car is really nice (I have something else to say besides that )

Condom...no offense man. I love your setup. I only wish that I had something like dat in my car. Everytime i drive my 240, i hate the truck engine noise eminating from under the hood.

All I am saying is that everybody seems to dislike the 6spd tranny. And plus, it's a close ratio 6spd, meaning its final ratio is as tall as the 5spd's. It won't make you go faster with the 6spd. I am sure HKS, CWestin, and other big time companies did some or major mods to their trannies. It wouldn't make sense to spend all that money to mod everything except the trannies.

no offense taken, man...im jsut trying to stand up for the S15...its gotten alot of mis-information relayed about it and its tranny...so anytime I hear someone talk about how it is weak and such, it just ticks me off ...especially since most havent even driven an SR powered car, muchless an S15...anyways, didnt mean to come off like a d!ck...just supporting the facts.

Yeah, I misunderstood it, that isn't to bad, could have been cheaper, but if it works why complain.

Red vs. Black tops

Hey, I'm just getting into the SR scene and would like to know the difference between the red an black tops on the S14 and S15 engines. Also, what's the big difference between the engine setups other than the obvious tranny difference. Any info you can give would be really helpful. Thanx everybody. By the way, killer ride bro!!

The redtop only came in the S-13, and the blacktop came in the S-14, S-15 and Type-X. The difference between the S-14 and S-15 is the HP and turbo(not too much different) and the 6spd tranny.

Actually checkout this site, Heavy Throttle to get more information on the SR.
