Angry Engine ticking! :-/

Man i have been busting my ***** for like a week trying to get my SR up and running. Now that its all done, I crank it and its ticking! I dont know what it is. The car idles perfect, no smoke out the exhaust, everything seems fine to me. But there is this damn ticking. I asked a couple people and they said that the lifters arent lubed yet since the front clip has prolly been sittin a while. They said let it sit a while and if that doesnt work to pour tranny fluid into the oil and let it sit for a while and then drain it out. Is that true? What else could be wrong? I dont wanna have to re-build the head (yet) cause i am broke. lol. Please help

Whenever you swap in a used engine, it will likely tick for a while. The best thing to do is to change your oil a couple times, and keep in mind, if you are using synthetic it will increase the noise, as it is a thinner oil. Wherever you got your motor, who knows how long it was sitting before you stuck it in your car, so bare with it. You may never be able to fully rid the thing of ticking, but it should decrease in the insuing days if you change the oil and filter a few times.

BTW, have you run a compression test on this new motor?

I was ganna suggest compression like brad.

Let it run for awhile like your friends are saying. If it does not go away, then use thicker oil.

I had a mild tap sound at start up, switched to high mileage syn. oil and has gone away.

hmmm i didnt do a compression test but i did buy it from a reputable front clip selling business down here in miami. Though i will try to get a compression test done. I am using mobil 1 synthetic 10w30 as i used to use that on my MR2 turbo but i will change out to thicker oil tomorrow. Any suggestions?

Does the ticking come and go or is it constant? I had one once that did that off and on. It died a horrid death.

is it valvetrain or does it get louder with load, and double up when the engine decelerates? SR's are known for wearing out their rod bearings under heavy boost.
