-Klutch are you installing it yourself? If you are having it done let me know the prices you are getting. I like to keep track of how much I am beating everyone elses prices by.

depends on what car and what motor. Prices start at $600-$800 depending on chassis/engine

Damn... I've seen swaps around here starting at $1000! BTW, looks like I may have 2 swap projects soon.....someone's hooking me up ith a 180SX front-cut with a redtop SR. I wanted my first swap to be a RB, but I might just to the SR too. I could use experience....

It can depend alot on the condition of the car too, I have a car coming in for a RB20 swap with no engine in it, and I'm looking to charge the guy about $600 for installing everything.

It also costs more to do a dirty nasty car. If it takes you longer to work on it , and I can tell by looking at it. When I see that I will account for that in the price. I will be more than happy to give an even better deal to someone with a clean, well kept car.
And having the old motor out, that saves a good chunk of the install time, maybe 20%-25%, so a person like that also gets a better deal.
That can get tricky though, cause I have seen some cars that are "all ready to go" and I would not want to pick up where those people left off, so I guess you would have to watch out for that kind of stuff too.

Keeping it clean is one of my main goals. I agree with the cleaner it is the easier it is.

How clean the engine bay is really shouldn't matter, just pull out everything you don't need, pressure wash it after degreasing, then spray the bay black, thats basically what we do, I will post some pics of our bays.

not saying it makes the job impossible, but why would I want to clean up after someone elses mess, and give them the same price as a car that someone kept clean, or at least cleaned it before they brought it to me.
its almost like being polite to clean the car before someone has to crawl around on/in it for you.

Everyone I've talked to says likewise. A clean bay makes it easy. So if it's easier, wouldn't it make sense to try to keep it clean, even during routine maintainence?
