S14 SR Problems

Ok, I am posting this for a friend. We are trying to get his car running but to no avail. What we have is that about 4k it hits a wall and starts bogging really bad. The only question I have is will a SOHC MAF work on a S14 SR? That is what was on it when he got it. Also I really didn't understand but we checked his timing and set it to 15 and when I plugged the TPS back in it advanced the timing to like 22??? Could it be the TPS? Voltage is .58 closed and 3.99 WOT.
Thanks

Set it to 15 myself. Second notch from the right.

s14 ecu requires s14 SR maf. Sohc will not work. TPS is fine. Timing can do it too, but sounds like the MAF. Did this car ever work right? Also, does it have an S-AFC?

No, we haven't fixed it yet. We are waiting for the SAFC and will let you know how that goes. The car has never really ran right.

Then i would say the maf for sure. By running an afc, you can set the input maf as the s13 one and the output as the s14 which should make it run. However the sohc maf still sucks and you need either a proper s14 or z32 w/afc. That may not be your only problem though

He put the Z32 maf on it today and it idled great but when he drove it the bogging was still there. He does not really know how to set up the afc so any pointers would be great.

Yeah, the Z32 will not work unless set up correctly in the AFC. You need to read the directions and set it up for the correct MAF, and then change the in and out. In will be the number associated with Z32 and out with the S14. If memory serves me, it was IN 2 OUT 5.
