Your an adult, your parents should have no say and let you do all the decision making.

Anywho, 163k is a bit high and I would rather go and look for a car that has 130k or less on it.

yeah, like mr hyjnx stated, 163K is getting up there, most engine's last ~175-200K depending on how it was taken care of. Unless you can swap an engine i'd look elsewhere. Tell your parents most american cars don't last to 163K, lol. You can't persuade people that have made up their mind, lol. Is it your money or theirs? RWD sports car may not be the best first car, but 240's are a lot of fun.

i agree w/the Doc and Jynx, however, i think it's a question of maintenance, too. IMO, 163K of decently driven, well maintained miles ownz 80K of "beat-the-livin-****-outta-it" miles any day of the week. i guess it would help if u knew of the owner and how well they kept it up. also, things to consider will be the frame, rust, suspension, brakes, and transmission. in other words, there's more to look at than the engine...

as far as who has say in what u buy, that's a tough one. ur 18 and it's ur money. on the other hand, if u are still under their roof, u might be subject to their rules. in the end, it seems that ur folks are just trying to look out for u. if u like, u can point them to the mileage thread that we have here (and take a look, urself) and they can see how long these babies go for. perhaps a compromise can be reached if u can assure them that u'll be okay with the car u choose.
