Overheating Again!
Overheating Again!
I recently have changed the Radiator, both upper and lower hoses, water pump, and thermostat. The car only overheats when I am going slow, like under 25mph, or at stop lights/signs. The fans work, so it's not that. I thought for a while that there was an air bubble, and i have spent days working that out. Could there still be one?
is your A/C turned on when the car overheats?
also:
when you see a slight change in the temp.. meening when it starts to heat up.. try give it some gas. get it like to 4000 rpms. see if the temp will go down. then tell us.
my car started to overhear one day while i wasnt moving and i just gave it some gas.. and the temp gauge came back to normal in a matter of seconds.
but dont do it if the temp gauge is all the way up in the sky, meening if the motor is dangerously hot. cause you can f**k it up even more.
and one more thing:
to check and see if you have an air bubble in the system, turn your heat on all the way. if it doesnt blow hot air (it should be really hot, since its summer outside), you got an air bubble. thats my most efficient way to check if there is air in the coolin system.

Nope, the AC is not on. And yes when i do give it gas and raise the RPMs the temp will go back down. But if i don't keep the RPMs up, the temp goes sky rocketing. And the Heater system blows out really hot air, so i don't think there's an air bubble anymore. Actually I am seeing NO sign of losing coolant. Matter infact, after a drive i'll find that my resevoir tank is WAY over the Max line, and i keep it right at the max line. Up to the point of coming out the relief spout at the top.
Driften, BTW I live in Raleigh, nice to see a fellow NC person.

Any chance the belt could be too tight. Or the fan clutch could be out. I mean the water pump is BRAND new!
Also, why would the resevoir be filling up to the point of overflow? After the car cools down, the resevoir will lower back down to the Max line.

well in your case.. the car heats up while it idles.
the water pump and all that is good because if you give it some gas.. the temp goes down. so everything must be working fine.
but i dont have anymore solutions for you problem other than just take you car to the closest mechanic shop and tell them to look at it. they should diagnost it for free.
then come back and tell us what it was.. i really want to find out what was causing the problem.

I took the 240 in to Nissan. They said that that Clutch Fan was bad, and that it would cost 450 bucks to get a new one and replace it. But the don't have the part, and won't get it til next week! SO! Does anyone know how to replace this, and where else i could get the part i needed?!
Which part exactly do i need to be replacing?? Also, do they call the clutch fan something different in the book?
On another note, would it be a better idea to go ahead and install an electric fan from an Altima?? Which would be the better cost effective idea? haha.

my cousins corvette had the same problem and we took it to a corvette place and they said the fan motor was burned out..only cost 70$ for motor + 100$ for labor... and they changed the resevoir tank and radiator cap for free =0P ... to get there we drove 40 miles and coolant temp was 300 hahaha...
The Fan clutch is in the center of the actual fan blade piece. It's what attaches to the Water pump, and what has the pulley on it, since it runs off the engine. The part was 40 bucks at Autozone or Advance Auto.
