speedometer problems

Hey guys, im selling my 91 240 but one thing i'd like to fix is the speedometer. Rarely have I ever seen a 240 with a fully functional heads up display and digital readout. So im thinking there is something big that alwasy happens. Mine works 1% of the time. Can you tell me what you guys have done in the past (when you speedo didnt work) Thanks

Sean

P.S. If you want to see the 240 that's for sale, it's on the classifieds on this web site and it'll be under my name.

Wow! That's really weird. I have a 1990 240 and mine works all the time! Never had a problem.

There was a slight problem with my speedometer and HUD before I bought it (it's a '93); it would take 5-10 minutes to come on when you first start the car (in the winter; less time in the summer, if any; can you see where this is going?).

The original owner fixed it before I bought it, but as I understand it the problem was just a loose contact; as the engine (and the car) heated up, the contact expanded with the heat and made the connection (hence why it worked fine in the summer). As far as I know she just had it tightened up, and it's worked fine ever since.

Hopefully your problem is just as simple...

Hey thanks for the info. I think now my problem is where do I begin to get the dash apart? I've sort of tried a little but I wanted to know where to start first because you can't get there from underneith, you have to actually take out the dash (or so it seems) Thanks

That I can't tell ya...I haven't had the pleasure. I watched them taking the door panels off when the speakers were installed, but that's it!
