Yeah man get a stock 240 and practice driving before you mod. It will pay off in the long run. True story.

It is actually much more difficult to drift a stock 240 than a slightly modded one. Forget 5k for now...spend less. Get yourself a decent twin cam 240. If you want to spend some extra money, a 95 SE has a slightly more neutral balance to it stock or slightly modded, but an S13 will do fine. Most important thing is to get both back wheels spinning using either an LSD or welded diff. I personally hate welded diffs with a passion, but it is a cheap way to start drifting. Another cheap option is a stock vlsd diff which can be had for about 300 or less. Next important thing is suspension, especially on an s13. The stock suspension is just too soft. You need to flatten the car out a little and speed up the weight transfer to make it easier to counter and react quicker. You could simply start with a decent set of springs and struts which will do you fine until you get pretty good. Forget any dinky NA power mods if you think you are going to go turbo or SR as it will just be wasted money. Sway bars would not be a bad idea either. With those 2-3 mods, you can have a good base for practice and be saving the rest of you money for a swap or turbo.

why if it's forced induction you want then you should head in that direction otherwise it will be a waste of money. the beauty of tunning is that is can be done to suit individual needs or desires.

Was not saying an s13 is bad, just rather that a s14 is more balanced and predictable right off the start. After you get into modifying them, they start to equalize and the weight advantage of the s13 start to matter more. But if you are looking for ease off the start, s14 is easier.

Also, on the NA vs Turbo things, I am not saying NA is worthless, just that wasting money on NA parts IF you are going to go FI is worthless. You do not HAVE to go forced induction for drifting, although as you get faster and faster, the lack of hp will become a handicap
