97-98 tail lights into a 95-96

How easy is it to swap out the 95-96 tail lights and put in the 97-98 ones? What would I need?

They fit right in. The only things you need are the new tail lights and the necessary tools.

It is really easy.

Although it's not necessary, I'd recommend leaving your car out in the sun for part of the day to heat up the silicone sealer a little bit.

My car is garage kept so removing the tailights were a challenge becuase of how sticky the silicone was.

There is silicone holding the light to the body? When I take out my prelude lights, all I have to do is pull back the carpeting and unscrew 6 nuts on each lights, unclip the harnesses and pull the light out. Is it bad to peel away the silicone? I know when you open up the lights in the oven, it will never stick like stock again, is it the same way with just removing the lights?

Exactly, it's connecting the lights to the body but that's it. You won't be hurting the lights at all if you decide to remove the gunk.

The way you take your Prelude's lights out is basically the same with the 240 other than the silicone.

No, it's not bad to peel it away but I'd replace it with more if you tear if off. I'm guessing it's there to keep the water out.

First off, real quick, just want to say whaz up to everyone, this is my first post and I wanto to say that I share the same passion and love for my car that you all do, so thanks to those that set this club up.

Well I've also gotten the urge to replace my 96's rear tail lights with the 97-98 lights. From the dealer they're $170 each- for left and right, and the center lens with the backup lights is $377!!! I already know parts from the dealer are real expensive, but I just wanted to get an idea of what I was dealing with. I mean I love the look, but damn that's a lot of money.

So h22lude how'd you come up on yours? Does anyone else know of a place or site that offers a good deal? How well do those on-line used auto part locator services work? Any suggestions. Thanks

By the way, although this is my first post, I've already gotten a bunch of info, just by checking out the forums and doing searches, I had to post this, cause I couldn't find this info.

Alrato.

Ebay is probably your best bet. Even there you will be looking to spend...a minimum of 400 bucks I think. Beats dealer though. And welcome

use a heat gun to heat up the silicone sealer, don't stay in one spot too long, heat it from inside the trunk.
i ***'d up my 3rd brake light from heating it too long and baked the plastic lens, but oh well i'm shaving it anyways

Thanks HyJynX, that's probably what I'll do, try finding them on E-bay. The lowest price I found on one of those auto parts locators was $100 ea. for the two side tail lamps, which is a lot better than $170, but I'm sure I could get them less on E-bay. They didn't have the trunk mounted back up light lens, the lowest was at everything Nissan & Infiniti at $246. I'm not in a rush so I'll keep a look out. If you see a deal, let me know, thanks.

For 97 headlights to fit your 95, you'll need the bumper, fenders, and hood.

If you like it, then it's worth doing. Don't let us dictate what you do to your car.

Good luck!

true... a closer look will show that the corner lights are different shapes between the 95-96 and the 97-98 model. Good thing you asked though
