The KA would also benefit from a better intake manifold to help broaden the torque band and keep it from dropping as early from what I've read. So countbalancing the crank would be a good idea if you are boosting too sicne any torque lost would be regained by the backpressure of the turbo and the extra power added, right?

Yes that is true the manifold is to long, it takes longer for the engine to obtain aspiration. Right now I am trying to solve that problem as best as possible by installing a 1990 Q45 throttle body(90mm) diameter, and adapter/spacer. By enlarging the diameter to the manifold you can make up for lost aspiration. I would also have to find a way to hot wire the Q45 MAF as well. Then you can achieve better aspiration and acceleration as well as keeping torque. There are no aftermarket manifold's but that would be nice. www.tweakit.com sells individual throttle body stack's that are compatible with any import 4.
Honestly though if you are going to turbo charge instead of NA I wouldn't worry about changing the manifold. A Turbo's pressure within the engine is above atmospheric pressure. There fore the engine does little to no work obtaining aspiration.

But the better manifold would allow for a broader torque band. Someone on the NICO forums actually is in the process of having some short runner manifold made. Can't wait to see the resuls. Also, some ITBs with an aluminum plenum would help out teh breathing.
