Exclamation 89 240sx Tail Lights issue

Hey everyone,
I have an 89 240sx. The car is completely stock at this point including wiring. When I drove the car home the other night, the tail lights were stuck on. I tried pumping the brake, hoping to get them to turn off, but had no luck. I tried looking to see if I could fine a switch that was maybe stuck, but could not see anything. I eventually had to just pull the fuse. Do any of you have any suggestions of what to check next? Any info would be appreciated.
Thanks

sounds like your brake light switch, follow the brake pedal up and theres a switch located on the back (tward the rear of the car). Theres a little rubber/plastic stop that is on the pedal that has most likely broken, you can get another one from nissan or improvise. You're looking for a white/tan plunger coming out of the switch. If I'm right it will be poking through the hole in the pedal instead of getting pushed in by the stopper (if that makes any sense. )

for his situation, it's not the switch. it's the rubber piece on the brake pedal. if he had no brake lights at all then it may be the switch. that rubber piece has just gotten old and broken or deteriorated.

the reason why there is a rubber piece on the brake pedal is so that the brake light switch doesn't ground/short itself out on the metal pedal. when the pedal is not depressed then the pedal pushes the switch plunger in, breaking the circuit therefore turning the brake lights off. once you depress the pedal, the circuit is completed, turning the brake lights on.

if you have a 5spd, there's another rubber piece of **** like that on the clutch pedal. do yourself a favor, go ahead and replace that one too, because one day you'll come out, depress your clutch, turn the key, and your car won't start or do anything (not even click click). then you'll **** your pants trying to figure out if it's your starter or battery that just took a ****. 9 out of 10 times when someone calls me to ask me for opinions as to why their car won't start all of a sudden when it was just working fine, i start there and it ends up being that little gremlin.

I had that happen a few weeks ago, for the few weeks prior i was wondering where these little pieces of black rubber were coming from. I just taped up the hole on the clutch pedal.
