no tail lights ( running )
no tail lights ( running )
UGH..... I have no running lights ( tail ), the brake lights work, but the dash and tails dont. I put in the fuse and it fries it. I am pretty positive its a short, but i dont know where to look first. There is a custom stereo in it and the f'kin moron clipped the wires instead of being a good boy and using a harness. Im still not 100% convinced thats where its coming from. '96 SE if that helps the advice any.
-- I just need to know where the most frequent shorts occur, and where i should check first and what to look for, thanks
edit: by the way, im pretty new to the whole car thing, and dont have a ton of mechanical know how under my belt yet, so dont start getting too technical.

wow. dont even know where to begin. well you could take some of the panels apart, and start looking for yourself. thats all i can think of. maybe someone on here will be able to help you out. if anything you might have to take it somewhere to have it checked out.
i would if i had the money, but i just bought it and am short on cash. i still owe like 300 dollars just for the trip to get it, and then 300 for tax and registration, 250 for insurance, 100 for the loan payment, and i think thats it..... anyway..... i just cant afford it atm
my friend clipped the wires in his car (my old 1991 Fastback) instead of buying the harness and things went to **** pretty fast, lights started going out, others came on and wouldn't go off, after awhile we found out one wire needed grounded and his car was fixed. I would say start there.
Before we figured out the problem I told my friend to go to a junkyard and find a car that still has the connector down there, cut it off leaving a half or an inch of the wires that come from it, and then go back and splice it back together with the wires from your car, dunno if it will work or not but its worth a shot

what the problem is that the ground wire from your stereo is hooked up to the illumination wire of the car... remove the stereo and dissconect the ground wire... replace the fuse and turn the lights back on... they should work... the stereo needs to be grounded to and number of metal locations behind the dash... not to the wiring harness in the car...
nissan factory radios ground through the antenna... aftermarket stereos tho nissans method will work... needs to be grounded to any metal part under the dash...
reiinstall the stereo and you are set...

ill try that. so if i unhook everything and the lights turn on then how will i know which wire is the ground.
edit: black... duh..... anyway i did it, and the lights work now, but the wiring is a total mess. I have a friend that might have a factory harness i can steal. he also might have an LSD for me woot. Gotta love the 240 owners out there, and how they are willing to help eachother out.
this forum owns.... Thanks l2aine for turning me onto it through cardomain.
