Smelling and Squeaking

Ok, I just got a new clutch, flywheel, and front end in my 91 240 le. After I drive it, it has a weird smell coming from underneath it. Is it just because of the new clutch/flywheel or is something burning? Also, through first, second and reverse gear the car squeaks loudly. After 2nd it doesn't anymore. Any ideas on what that is and is it bad? Thanks.

i installed brakes once and something got between one of the pads and rotors. Didn't really squeal, but I was driving and I smelled something horrible when I stopped at a light. I was like I wonder what that is. then someone pulled up next to me and told me taht my wheel was smoking, LOL.

I ended up taking it back apart, spraying it with some brakleen and putting it back together. problem solved.

i for got about that, If you put new rotors on when you did your front brakes and you didn't spray them down really well with brake cleaner, oils from the new rotor's will burn and smell really bad. make sure and spay throught the middle of the rotor's too to get every bit of oil and grease out.

mine did the same thing when I was in reverse, changed my rotors and the problem was solved...... Facts would later reveal that my front rotors were warped..........GL

when rotors are subjected to extreme heat, they tend to warp, which is exactly what it sounds like. They loose their shape, so intead of being a disc, they start to get sorta wave, kinda like the same way u can bend a bicycle rim and it won't roll right anymore. When this happens, it is commonly followed by vibration in the brake pedal and crappy braking, as well as rapid pad wear since the pad is possibly being constantly rubbed by the warped rotor.

under normal driving you usually don't have to worry about warping rotors. Warping can also occur in the rain tho, when the cold water hits the hot brakes.... but that doesn't happen too often. I drive like a jack@$$ sometimes and I've never warped any rotors....
