ticking?

ticking?

there is something ticking against the valve cover...

my friend said just remove the guard or something and it will stop...
what could this be?

its most likely the timing chain guides. i recently removed my upper guide but theres still a slight tick, so u might as well just remove the lower timing chain cover and remove those while you're at it.

are the parts for the timing chain assembly really $500 to replace? i searched around, i found it for 500 bucks and a couple for 185 bucks. on a different website, they say nissan knew that the upper guides sucked and with the new assembly, they completely get rid of the upper guides. anywho, i got a noisy tick/rattle too.

you can remove the top ones but your supposed to keep the bottom ones. with out them after a while the chain will eat through the water pump housing and youll get coolant in your oil pan and stuff.
