Unhappy Engine whining Help Please

i got a 91 DE and i seem to get a whine when the engine is running. I replaced all my belts and the alternator about 3 weeks ago. I also get a little lag between 2,000 and 3000 rpm. Fuel Pump????? If it is which one do you guys think i should get!!!! Not too expensive either...

Thanks

when you say whine while driving it makes me think of a few things...first thing is... is this a manual trans car??? if so the whine might be comming from the clutch or the transmission... if it is a standard does the sound go away when you push in the clutch??? if that is the case then it is either the clutch or the trans making the noise... if this is not the case then i will need more info to help here... is it a high pitched wine like belts slipping or a low grumble like grinding sound??? and the hardest part of this... from what direction does the sound come from... meaning if you sit on the passenger side while someone else drives is it louder or quieter... same with the back seat... louder or quieter depending on where you sit in the car...
and the last question i have for you is this... have you installed any car audio products like amps and subs in your car??? this might sound kind of dumb to ask but... im just trying to help you locate the problem... if you installed car audio equiptment... check to see if it is the speakers making the noise...turn off the radio and make sure the amps are not powered up... remove the fuse at the battery... now listen for the sound again...

try tightening your alt. sometimes the nut and bolt loosen up and
that will make your belt seam tight but it isnt.
